Yachay Public Company supports the inclusive education strategy program of “Flexible Secondary Basic Education” “, implemented in the cities of: Urcuquí, Ibarra, Otavalo and Cotacachi, in the Province of Imbabura
The “Flexible Secondary Basic Education” program from the Ministry of Education, is an opportunity to study for people aged 15 to 21 who have failed to complete basic education within the expected time and remained outside ordinary school education for over 3 years.
In this program, students take studies corresponding to eighth, ninth and tenth year of basic (secondary) education to obtain a certificate of completion, which will allow them to continue with the completion certificate of upper-secondary education in any ordinary school.
The goal is to generate life projects that allow the student to enter the job world with better opportunities.
Yachay Public Company provided access to study for citizens residing in the polygon of influence (surrounding area), for which Yachay Public Company gathered information in order to identify interested people in each of the communities. This process allowed for the list of participants to have direct registration and can receive tuition in the former school, Luis Felipe Borja, for a period of 11 months which began on October 20 and will end in August 2015. The classes are classroom based, students attend on a mandatory basis on Monday to Friday evenings. It should be noted that such education is completely free. The working guidelines and textbooks were given to all students for free through coordinated work between Urcuqui’s municipality and the NGO “Development and Self-Management”. (JMP-VE / YACHAY EP)
