Yachay Public Company continues with the preparatory events for the Conference of the Americas on International Education, CAEI Ecuador 2015. On 15th April a pre-meeting took place in Quito called Espacio de Mujeres Líderes de Instituciones de Educación Superior de las Américas, EMULIES.
Ana Patricia Lozada, director of International Relations Yachay Public Company, welcomed the conference and noted that one of the main objectives is the training of knowledge networks that establish working relationships and cooperation in various fields.
In this space the conference on “Women’s Leadership and its importance in the Institutions of Higher Education,” there was a panel on the progress and challenges of women leaders, the development of space, formation, results and future challenges of the EMULIES project was conducted and agenda for leadership development with Ecuador’s IES (Institutions of Higher Education) was developed.
The event brought together rectors, faculty, and students of various higher education institutions of the country such as the Universidad Andina Simón Bolivar, Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral, ESPOL Guayaquil, Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo, Universidad Politécnica Estatal del Carchi, North Technical University, University of the Arts in Guayaquil, Consejo de Evaluación, Acreditación y Aseguramiento de la Calidad de la Educación Superior, Tourism Specialty University, Embassy of Honduras, and Yachay Tech University.
Women leaders and innovators
The speaker Jacqueline Sepulveda Carreño, Vice Chancellor of the Universidad Concepción de Chile, referred to the new generation of women who are attracted to new knowledge. “There are equal opportunities and possibilities because the world is changing and in that sense we all want a more just society, that means inclusive and participatory leadership for women,” she said.
The Chilean representative highlighted gender inequality present in several universities, where only 20% of participants in postgraduate programs related to innovation, technology, science, physics and mathematics, are women compared to 80% men.
For Rosa Elena Pinos, Rector of the Escuela Superior del Chimborazo, these meetings facilitate the design of policies to change these realities, but remember that much remains to be done and that the percentage of women that can and should be in front of projects should be steadily increased, to give future generations’ better opportunities
