Hector Rodriguez, CEO of Yachay Public Company is part of the presidential delegation accompanying President Rafael Correa Delgado on his international tour to Qatar and Switzerland, from 21 to 24 October.
The agenda for this trip focuses on the expansion of trade relations and cooperation in science and education for Ecuador.
The Thirty First World Conference of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) was being held in Doha at the Qatar National Convention Center, an event in which Hector Rodriguez participated in, sharing insights with participants about the “City of Knowledge”, as well as details of how the technology park will operate in the city.
“This is a sign that we can have global cooperation for technology parks to have a greater role and importance in Latin America. We hope that our experience will be a leader in the region, which will help solve the problems of our country, guarantee the rights of citizens and industrialize our productive matrix, “said Rodriguez.
The main presenters of the event were Rick Weddle, President of IASP International; Luis Sanz, General Director of IASP; Herbert Chen, President of the IASP Asia-Pacific Division; and Ana Nikina, President of the Skolkovo Technology Park in Russia.
“We see Yachay as one of those new models that we look forward to following. It is for this reason that we have a meeting scheduled for November in Ecuador”, Sanz said, referring to the workshop to be held on the 12th and 13th of November in Yachay City.
IASP covers science and technology parks worldwide, as well as business incubators, universities, regional and local development agencies, consultants and experts in technology transfer and knowledge, among other organizations related to these topics.
In addition, the CEO of Yachay Public Company visited part of the academic complex of the Qatar Foundation, one of the epicenters of world renowned technology research.
According to statements given in daily newspaper “El Cuidadano”, Rodríguez said: “The strategic allies in the Knowledge Economy must be diverse (…), same as it is the case in Qatar, which is diversifying its economy, the commitment of the “Citizens’ Revolution” is to offer Ecuador a chance to be a country based on knowledge, technology and who is not afraid to work with larger countries.”
“In Yachay we seek to develop avant-garde infrastructure, the concentration of the best laboratories, the best institutions,” he said, emphasizing that this experience and collaboration are very useful for Ecuador.
From the 12th to the 13th of November, Yachay Public Company and the International Association of Science Parks(IASP) have organized for the Latin American Division, the workshop: “Management of technology parks and innovation programs in Latin America: challenges and problems”.
The aim is to discuss successful models worldwide, share experiences, promote and enrich the national and regional discussion (Latin America) about the influence of technology parks in Knowledge Economies.
Yachay Public Company seeks to generate links with authorities and senior managers of Latin American science parks in order to access knowledge on management models and thus enhance Innovation Ecosystems, which will allow them to generate a national network of knowledge. (SA-VE / YACHAY EP)
