The City of Knowledge hosted the first preparatory meeting for the organization of the Ibero-American Summit of Cities of Knowledge, Innovation and Entrepreneurship on 3rd and 4th March 2015, which was attended by representatives of public and private organizations in the region.
The topics covered during the day were: approach and objectives of the summit, topics that could be addressed during the summit, view on the participants and roles in the cities of knowledge on behalf of the government, business, the academic sector and society. International participants were very interested in the experience of Yachay City in Ecuador.
“Yachay is a state venture, it is an institution that generates the minimum conditions for the convergence of participants and the innovation ecosystem of Ecuador,” said Héctor Rodríguez, General Manager Yachay Public Company.
For Senen Barro, president of the RedEmprendia, the Yachay City initiative is ambitious “I would say that the success of this project is essential not only for Ecuador, but for the good of the region,” he said.
Topic experts who participated were from Spain, Mexico, Panama, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay and Ecuador, from organizations such as the Secretariat for Ibero-American Cooperation (SEGIB), the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation of the Hidalgo State in Mexico (CITNOVA) the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), RedEmprendia, Organization of American States (OA)S, among others.
“Each project has its own development model, however, on the way doubts arise, so it is important to have spaces for collaboration to enhance our ability to execute”, José Alonso Huerta, General Director of the Council for Science and Technology and Innovation of Hidalgo State in Mexico, CITNOVA noted.

Hidalgo State, Mexico, through the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CITNOVA), in collaboration with the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico and RedEmprendia are organizing the “First Ibero-American Summit of Cities of Knowledge, Innovation and Enterpreneurship” scheduled for October this year in Pachuca, City of Knowledge.
