The First Pre Conference preamble of the fourth edition of the Conference of the Americas on International Education, CAIE, not only generates improved relationships between American universities, but it is a real opportunity for partnerships and collaborations.
As part of the meeting, held on November 5th at the Central University of Ecuador (Quito), Patricia Gudiño, Secretary General of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE), OUI for its Spanish initials, highlighted CAIE’s international, Inter-American and national approach.
Firstly, the conference is an important stage in the construction of a common space of convergence where Latin America and the Caribbean can discuss the paradigms, new practices and perspectives of higher education.
From a national perspective, she said it is a platform to empower new institutions into subject analysis, from the range of collaborations that arise in the event and network with experts for future projects.
Patricia Gudiño said that until October 2015, work on the positioning of the issues of internationalization and innovation of science and technology will be done, topics which are on the agenda of higher education institutions.
Raul Arias, Executive Director of the OUI Campus Program in Ecuador, said that the conference is the most important in America because it provides specialists from across the continent with a huge opportunity to establish partnerships for development between different Latin American universities
Ecuador a deserved addition to the fourth edition of CAIE
Patricia Gudiño and Raul Arias applaud that the fourth edition of the Conference of the Americas on International Education will take place in Ecuador. The first three editions were held in Canada, Brazil and Mexico, countries that have made commitments to the themes.
“To return to South America means holding the conference in a country that has legitimacy, dynamics, public policy and institutional commitments. This is the case for Ecuador, in addition to its leadership that mobilizes not only the institutions but the region; providing an example of internationalization that interests the world and the Americas, “said Gudiño.
The representatives of the OUI (Spanish) or IOHE (English) argue that the role of Yachay Public Company in organising the conference, is crucial. “The flagship universities and the Public Company cannot walk alone. The success is to have a leadership that is developing Yachay and is essential for carrying out the process, must be accompanied by all institutions of higher education because Ecuador is now facing major challenges, such as increased competitiveness which can only be overcome if we work in unity and common ground “said the secretary of OUI.
Yachay strengthens the scientific and technological development
The technical manager of Yachay Public Company, Fernando Cornejo said that there is a recent development of a knowledge sector in Ecuador, achieved through the committed participation of stakeholders in the areas of higher education, science, technology and innovation, such as universities.
During his presentation: “Attracting professors for the development of training and research networks”, Fernando Cornejo said: The number of human talent that is dedicated to science, technology and innovation has quintupled, while scientific production has doubled in the country.”
He also indicated that there are 89 research networks for Senescyt (Secretariat for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation) projects only, besides the networks of higher education institutions. “This allows to generate much more powerful processes,” he said.
Fernando Cornejo described Yachay as the institution that has begun to solve needs to integrate the various actors in the system with talent management and advice for building technology based companies. Yachay also offers benefits as ZEDE (Special Economic Development Zone), as a technological and industrial park, within an innovation ecosystem processes for research and technological develop.
Finally, he invited the Yachay Partners Project, which has 100 national and international institutions available to universities, to link with required human talent as necessary.
