Yachay Public Company, together with the Ecuadorian Society of Neurology, Ecuadorian Society of Neurosurgery and Hospital de los Valles presented the First International Symposium on Neuroscience: Focus on Epilepsy, which had the academic support of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.
Fernando Cornejo, Technical Manager of Yachay Public Company welcomed the country’s students and medical professionals, interested in expanding their knowledge on the subject of Epilepsy.
Cornejo says that for Yachay, it is a pleasure to participate in another event to help spread science, “one of the objectives of the Yachay Public Company is spreading various processes of science and technology empowering each of the scientists involved to have an impact on society “.
Topics such as: basic sciences in epilepsy, Pediatric Epilepsy and Epilepsy in Adults, were discussed during the conference that has as a main objective to know the conceptual bases of diagnosis of epilepsy and its current therapeutic situation.
Julio Enriquez, Director of the Symposium of Neuroscience and Head of the Unit of Neurosurgery Hospital of Los Valles, explained that he decided to address epilepsy, as it is a neurological disease with high prevalence, little known about it, which is misdiagnosed and treated badly.
“According to the World Health Organization, epilepsy affects about fifty million people worldwide, of which it is estimated that about five million live in Latin America and the Caribbean” Enriquez said.
