On October 30, 2014, Hector Rodriguez, CEO of Yachay Public Company, received the Declaration of “Support Yachay, City of Knowledge, of the Republic of Ecuador.” from the Andean Parliament, in a public ceremony.
The Plenary of the Andean Parliament declared Yachay City as “a project of vital importance not only for Ecuador but for the Andean region and Latin America, especially for being framed in the pursuit of ‘Good Living’ or to setup a Sumak Kawsay proposal with high inclusion levels of population and human capital development.”
It also further recognizes that Yachay, City of Knowledge was established as a transcendental strategy for the democratization of knowledge and an effective tool to minimize inequality and social disparities, and economic policies that affect the region.
The declaration includes the appeal to the governments of member countries of the Andean Community to replicate the model promoted by the Ecuadorian government to develop similar projects, depending on the inner realities of each country, with the Andean Parliament the bridge for the transfer of good practices in implementing such projects.
The delivery of this official statement was made in the framework of celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Andean Parliament, held during the Regular Session XLV in Santa Martha, Colombia, from October 29th to November 1st, 2014. (SA-VE / YACHAY-EP)
