This morning La XIX Latin American Summer School Operations Research (ELAVIO-2015), organized by the Yachay Public Company; Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt); the National Polytechnic School; Mathematical Modeling Center (ModeMat); Latin-American Association of Operations Research (ALIO) and the Ecuadorian Society of Mathematics, was opened for the first time in Quito, running from 23th to 27th February 2015.
“Yachay Public Company’s involvement in this type of event is to position Ecuador as a scientific and academic destination. Ecuador has initiated fundamental changes in public policy for the generation of science and technology, with the formation of human talent and promotion of opportunities for collaboration to produce changes in the country and the region “Juan Carlos Moreno, Manager of Education, Science and Technology Yachay Public Company.
The ELAVIO is a school promoted by the ALIO mainly aimed at young researchers and post-graduate students (PhD and Masters) Latin American countries as well as for advanced undergraduates from any region in the world, with outstanding performance and interest in the areas of Operations Research, Systems Engineering and Applied Mathematics.
70 students from Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Chile, France, Spain, Germany, Venezuela, Bolivia, Belgium and Ecuador will participate for five days of mini courses, conferences, panel discussions and presentation of selected works on topics such as:
Combinatorial optimization and polyhedral theory.
Modeling using linear and nonlinear integer programs.
Applications to the solution of practical problems in the areas of sustainability, environment, logistics, fisheries, agriculture, engineering and production, among others.
“We cannot talk about the generation of scientific knowledge without having spaces for debating about it. That is why the importance of this school, to develop friendships with future research networks to generate science in Ecuador “said Jaime Medina, Undersecretary of Scientific Research at Senescyt.
